Between line and attitude: the political power of illustration.

Illustration is more than just decoration. It is commentary, criticism, sometimes resistance – and always a mirror of the times. In recent years, a new generation of illustrators has emerged who consciously use their medium to take a stand. They draw against racism, against environmental destruction, against social inequality. And they do so with a clarity that words often cannot achieve.

Amplifier: Art as a catalyst for social change

An outstanding example of the connection between illustration and activism is the US collective Amplifier. As a non-profit media lab, Amplifier develops visual campaigns that support the most significant movements of our time – whether through posters, augmented reality or educational programmes. Their works are available free of charge and have already been downloaded millions of times worldwide.

Amplifier became particularly well known through the „We The People campaign“, which was created in 2017 in collaboration with artists such as Shepard Fairey. Within eight days, over $1.3 million was raised to create powerful images for protests and public spaces.

ILLUS Hotels: A stage for attitude

Because sometimes a good line can speak louder than any microphone.
