Christoph Abbrederis, born in Bregenz in 1961, is a widely acclaimed illustrator and comic artist. His work includes illustrations for magazines such as The New Yorker, taz, and Cicero, designs for advertising and cultural institutions, and book and children’s book illustrations.

After studying commercial art, illustration, and photography at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna (1980–1988), Abbrederis moved to New York, where he worked for renowned media outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Der Spiegel, and Cosmopolitan from 1989 to 1994. He then lived in Madrid for six years, where he published his first children’s books, including with the La Galera publishing house in Barcelona.

His best-known works include the children’s book Oscar. Ein seltsamer Vogel (Oscar: A Strange Bird), published by Luftschacht Verlag in 2013. He also regularly contributes to the avant-garde comic magazine STRAPAZIN. His comic diary Das tägliche Scheitern (The Daily Failure) has documented his everyday observations since 2004, and since 2016 these have been posted daily on the Facebook page of the same name.

Christoph Abbrederis is a lecturer in illustration at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design & Art and at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Austria and abroad, including as part of the Montforter Zwischentöne in Feldkirch and at the NextComic Festival in Linz.
